Description

These are a pair of early 19th-century townhouses, nos. 16 and 17 South Terrace, likely intended as a pair from the outset. They are stuccoed and stand four storeys high with a basement, including an area. No. 16 has four windows, with three set within a four-storey canted bay. No. 17 features triple windows. The windows are sash windows. No. 16 exhibits channelled rustication on the ground floor and a cornice to its canted bay; a band, cornice, and parapet top the building. No. 17 features slightly cambered arches over the first and second floor windows, and a cornice over the third floor window. A canted bay with three windows extends across the ground floor and basement of both properties. A shared flight of steps leads to the doorways, which are sheltered by a Doric porch; its entablature forms a continuation of the shared balcony. The doorways have semi-circular radiating fanlights, panelled reveals, and six-panel doors, with the entrances flanked by pilasters.
