Description
8A High Street is a building dating from the 16th or 17th century, with timber framing and an early 19th-century red brick front. The south elevation, facing Mill Lane, is rendered. It features a half-hipped tile roof with overhanging eaves, wooden consoles, and bargeboards that were added in the late 19th century. The red brick chimney has a lower section that is from the 16th or 17th century, while the upper part, including the brick tumbling and cornicing, is late 19th century. The building has two storeys and attics.
On the west elevation, there is a mid-19th-century shopfront with plate glass and a moulded cornice on the ground floor. Above it, on the first floor, there is a three-light double-hung sash window with glazing bars and a flush frame, along with a double-hung sash window with glazing bars and a battered Pulborough stone sill in the attic storey. The south elevation also has a mid-19th-century shopfront with plate glass and a moulded cornice, a door with the top half featuring late 19th-century engraved glass, a four-panelled door with an elaborate mid-19th-century knocker, and one two-light and one three-light double-hung sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor. The first floor has two blocked windows, one double-hung sash window without glazing bars, and two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. There is also one late 19th-century attic dormer with a pitched tile roof, tile-hung sides, a weather-boarded front, and casements with glazing bars.
