Description

1 New Street is a building from 1594 located on the south side of New Street. It has an L-shaped plan and features a street block with an early 16th-century rear range that originates from the 17th century. The structure is two storeys tall with an attic, constructed of colour-washed brick. There is a band between the storeys and a double-pitched gable end roof covered with old tiles, which has a moulded and coved eaves cornice.

The building includes a central gabled dormer with tile-hung cheeks and a small casement window. On the first floor, there are three flush-framed sash windows, including one tripartite window, while the ground floor has one plate glass window, with the remaining glazing bars intact. The main entrance features a door with six flush panels in a plain surround, topped with a flat moulded hood to the right. There is a secondary door to the left, which has a similar surround.

Previously, there was a long garden wall to the east, but this has since been demolished. Inside, the entrance hall showcases painted 17th-century oak panelling, and the south rear room contains fragmentary 17th-century panelling. The roof is partly sealed and features two trusses with tie beams and raised centre collars, along with exposed wall posts and plates. The rear wing displays visible 17th-century wall plates and butt purlins.
