Description

Ashdale is a house that originally dates back to the 17th century, although the earlier block was demolished in 1961, leaving the southern addition built around 1760. Extensive additions were made to the north side in 1961. The building is constructed from rendered and whitewashed brick, topped with concrete pantile roofs.

The south front of the house features two storeys and an irregular bay system. To the right of the centre, there is a six-panelled door, with the upper four panels being glazed. This door is framed by a reeded timber doorcase that includes roundels in the upper corners, topped by a plain flat hood. On either side of the door, there is an 8/8 sash window, each with flush frames set under segmental gauged skewback arches. The upper floor has four sash windows of varying sizes, with glazing bars arranged as 8/8, 6/6, 6/6, and 8/8, all featuring flush frames. The roof is hipped, with a wall stack located on the west and north sides. The north side of the house is marked by a cluster of one- and two-storeyed additions from 1961.

Inside, the east ground-floor room has panelled reveals around the east and south windows. The central staircase features stick balusters and turned newels. The west ground-floor room is accessed through a four-panelled door and contains an elaborate 19th-century chimneypiece with fluted columns and Adamesque panels, which was brought in from another location.
