Description

The United Reformed Church, originally a Congregational church, was built in the 1830s or 1840s in a Classical style. It features coursed Bargate stone rubble with white brick dressings on the front and red brick dressings on the sides, topped with a slate roof. The building is primarily one storey, but the front has a two-storey design to accommodate a gallery. There are three round-headed windows on the front and two on the sides, all with marginal glazing bars. The front has a pediment that includes a clock in the oculus, and the windows are separated by full-height pilasters. A band runs between the floors, and the ground floor windows are set in round-headed arches. The central entrance features a round-headed arched doorcase with a fanlight and 20th-century double doors.

Attached to the front of the church is a low graveyard wall that runs along three sides, made of barstone and incorporating six square brick piers with stone cornices. The wall facing the road is curved and lower, adorned with cast iron spear railings topped with urn finials.

Inside, there is a panelled wooden gallery on the north side, accessed by a wooden staircase supported on two stop-chamfered wooden piers. The interior also features a moulded cornice.
