Description

Elstead Bridge is a Grade I listed structure located on Farnham Road in Elstead, dating back to the 13th century, possibly constructed by the Monks of Waverley Abbey. The bridge is made of sandstone rubble slabs interspersed with darker ironstone blocks, and features wooden parapet railings from the 20th century. Originally, the bridge had seven arches, but it now has five. It includes "keeled," or pointed, cutwaters on the upstream side and rounded cutwaters over "keeled" plinths on the downstream side. This bridge is part of an early series of crossings over the River Wey between Farnham and Guildford and holds significant historical importance. It is also designated as a scheduled Ancient Monument.
