Description

Nos. 7 to 11, Red Lion Lane are a group of 18th-century buildings. No. 7 has two storeys and one bay, with a tile gabled roof and an external stack at the left-hand end. The front is painted brick with a modern brick eaves cornice. There is a small two-light casement window above with a segmental relieving arch, and a modern three-light metal-framed casement window on the ground floor. A wooden boarded door is set within a frame to the right of the ground floor window, featuring iron hinges. To the right is a projection with a weather-boarded gable end, indicative of an earlier timber-framed building; this gable faces north-east and contains a small two-light casement above and another small one below. This earlier building forms an L-shape to the street, and has been clad in painted brick. Another gable end is visible in No. 9. In the angle formed by the south-east and north-west gable ends, there are two-light casement windows on the ground floor of the north-west facing wall. A door is located on the north-east facing wall of the north-west gable, and this gable also features two-light casement windows, both above and below, with the lower one having a segmental head. A wooden ledged door, set within a frame and sheltered by a sloping tile hood, is also present. A lean-to annex to the right-hand side is likely also timber-framed. Nos. 1 to 43 (odd) form a group.
