Description
No. 85 West Street is a 18th-century, three-storey brick building featuring a string course at the second and first floor levels. It has a fluted wood frieze and a moulded cornice, topped by a hipped roof covered with old tiles. The upper floors have three windows with architrave frames. The ground floor has a shop front with angular bay windows, supported by cut wood brackets, and is extended by a three-pane window to the right, with a rectangular fan to the left, all beneath the frieze and cornice. This shop front is a restoration done in the style of the 18th century. At the rear, there are two gables and a one-storey annexe at the northeast (right-hand) end. No. 85 is part of a group that includes Nos. 75 to 94, which are consecutive, as well as Nos. 86A and 88A.
