Description

This is an early 19th century building comprising three properties at 86, 86A, and 87 West Street. It is two storeys high with a cellar and is constructed of red brick on a projecting plinth. The building has a moulded flat eaves cornice and a hipped roof covered in old tiles.

The front of the building features three window bays. To the right of the centre is a six-panel door, with the top two panels cut away and glazed. It has a panelled reveal and a doorcase featuring Doric pilasters, an entablature which projects forward over the pilasters, and a pediment. There are three blocked cellar windows.

The south-west return wall has two storeys and three bays. On the first floor are two small, segmental-headed, two-light casements. On the ground floor, from the left-hand end, is a segmental-headed sash window with four panes. Next is a six-panelled door with the top two panels glazed, set within an architrave frame with pilasters, brackets, and a triangular pediment. Further along, towards the street's centre, is another six-panelled door in reveals, with a modern casing, architrave frame, pilasters, brackets, and a triangular pediment.

Continuing along the south-west return is a recessed two-storey, two-bay block with a lower frontage and a slate roof with boxed eaves. There are very small windows above and below on the right-hand side, and sash windows with four panes in frames (the lower one segmental-headed) on the left-hand side.

Nos 86, 86A, and 87 form a group with Nos 1, 2, and 3 Fenn's Yard. Nos 75 to 94 (consecutive) also form a group, including Nos 86A and 88A.
