3/22 War Memorial to the First World War

II

War memorial. 1919. Stone on 3 step square plinth; moulded base with panelled tapering pedestal above decorated with a shield at the top on each face. Life size figure of soldier in Army uniform standing on the pedestal carrying rifle with a female figure carrying a child laying at his feet. Erected as a memorial to the First World War dead with rectangular tablet added to the base in 1946 to commemorate the dead of the Second World War. The memorial forms an important central landmark on the green.
