TQ 35NE CATERHAM & WARLINGHAM BUG HILL (east side) FORMER URBAN DISTRICT WARLINGHAM 3/1 Coal Tax Post at NGR TQ 358577 II

Coal tax post. circa 1861. Metal c4½ foot high. Four legged plinth, chamfered pier with moulded capital band above and pyramidal top. City of London shield cast on the front with lettering below on the pier reading "ACT/24 & 25 VICT/ CAP 42". A Coal and Wine tax post indicating the boundary at which duty was payable; that on coal dating back to the 1660's.
