Description
This is a post dating from around 1860, standing approximately 3½ feet high. It features a metal four-legged plinth with a chamfered pier above, a moulded capital band, and a pyramidal top. On the front, there is a cast City of London shield with lettering below on the pier that reads "24 & 25/VICT. CAP 42". This post served as a Coal and Wine Tax marker, indicating the boundary at which duty was payable, with the coal tax origins tracing back to the 1660s.
