Description

This is a post located north of the Desborough Channel, dating from around 1860. It stands approximately 3½ feet high and is made of metal. The post features a four-legged plinth with a chamfered pier above, topped with a moulded capital band and a pyramidal top. On the front, it displays the City of London Shield, along with lettering on the pier that reads "24 &25 /VICT. CAP.42". This post served as a coal and wine tax marker, indicating the boundary at which duty was payable, with the coal tax dating back to the 1660s.
