Description

This is a post located north of the Desborough Channel, dating from around 1860. It stands approximately 3½ feet high and is made of metal. The post features a four-legged plinth with a chamfered pier above, topped with a moulded capital band and a pyramidal top. On the front, there is a City of London shield, along with lettering on the pier that reads "24 & 25 / VICT. CAP. 42". This post served as a coal and wine tax marker, indicating the boundary where duty was payable, with the coal tax originating from the 1660s.
