Description

This is a post dating from around 1860, standing approximately 3½ feet high. It is made of metal and features a four-legged plinth with a chamfered pier above. The post has a moulded capital band topped with a pyramidal shape. On the front, there is a cast shield of the City of London, along with lettering on the pier. This post served as a coal and wine tax marker, indicating the boundary where duty was payable, with the coal tax dating back to the 1660s.
