Description
This is a post located in the grounds of Stokesheath Farm, dating from around 1860. It stands approximately 3½ feet high and is made of metal. The post features a four-legged plinth with a chamfered pier above, which is topped by a moulded capital band and a pyramidal top. A City of London shield is cast on the front of the capital band, with lettering on the pier below. This post served as a coal and wine tax marker, indicating the boundary where duty was payable, with the coal tax dating back to the 1660s.
