Description
Lance's Cottage and Nightingales are 18th-century cottages located on Parkgate Road in Newdigate. They are timber framed with thin scantling and feature whitewashed brick infill, along with a whitewashed brick extension from the 20th century on the left side. The cottages have a plain tiled roof and are one storey high with an attic, which includes four hip-roofed, leaded through-eaves dormers. There is a central stack and an additional stack on the left end of the extension. The building consists of three framed bays. Originally, there were two square-pane windows on the ground floor to the right, situated under a tile drip course, and two windows in the extension. The entrance is located to the right of the center, featuring margin lights and a half-glazed gabled porch (Nightingales). To the left of the center, there is a larger porch with a tile-hung gable, whitewashed walls, and glazing above (Lance's Cottage). There are also extensions at the rear.
