Description
Saplings is a cottage that represents the remains of a larger house, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It features a timber frame made of thin scantling, with a whitewashed brick underbuild and whitewashed brick infill on the first floor, topped by a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of three framed bays, with two of the bays raised at the eaves on the right side. There is diagonal arch bracing on the first floor and a central stack located at the rear. The windows are arranged irregularly, with one large four-light window and two smaller two-light windows on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a larger square window to the left and a smaller window on the right end, which is part of a pentice extension. A part-glazed door is situated in the centre, sheltered by a gabled hood. To the left, there is a single-storey 19th-century brick range that projects outward, featuring a fixed shuttered window at the end.
