Description
No. 92 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It has an early 16th century core with later 16th and 17th century extensions at the back, and it was re-fronted in the early 19th century. The building is timber framed, covered in colourwashed render, and has a plain-tiled roof with a gable end facing the street, which is hidden by a parapet with moulded coping. It stands two storeys high with an attic over a basement, and features a large 17th century chimney stack at the rear.
In the attic, there is a 12-pane glazing-bar sash window that is currently blacked out, framed by a reeded surround. The first floor has a shallow bow window with original curving glazing-bar sash windows, while the ground floor has a 20th century shop front.
Inside, the front section consists of two framed bays with a crown post roof, where three crown posts remain on cambered tie beams, supported by two curving brace/struts. The centre post has two upward braces to the collar purlin, while the other crown posts have only one surviving brace. There is a chamfered and stopped wall plate on the right-hand wall. The two additional rear bays have through side purlin roofs and diminishing principal rafters. A further 17th century rear bay features staggered butt purlins and retains the remains of an original window in the rear gable.
