Description
Nos. 97 and 99 High Street is a house from the 18th century that has been divided and converted into shops and offices. The upper part of the building is made of red brick, while the lower part features stone with a stone-coped parapet that obscures the plain-tiled roof, which has a gable end facing the street. The building stands three storeys tall and has a corbelled stack on the left side.
Notable architectural features include a wooden canted-bay oriel that projects from the first and second floors, topped with a modillioned cornice and supported by a coved base. There are three 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows, one on each face of the bay on the second floor, all with architrave surrounds. The first floor has similar window arrangements. The ground floor features a plate glass shop front that includes a canted bay and doors to the right.
