Description

No. 60 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the 17th century and was remodeled in the late 19th century. The front is solidly rendered, while the side walls are timber-framed. The roof is slated. The building has three storeys, with three windows across the front. The ground floor features a late 19th-century shop front, which has been altered, but retains an original entablature with bracketed blocks at either end.

On the second storey, there is a canted bay window in the center, topped with a heavily moulded cornice and a swept pent-roof, along with plain sash windows. There are sash windows on either side with two upright glazing bars per sash. The third storey has two sash windows that mirror those below, rising above the eaves and finished with steeply-pitched, barge-boarded gables.

Inside, only the ground and first-floor front rooms have been inspected. These rooms feature wood lintels, though the underside of the lintel in the ground storey has been cut away, and any moulding in the second storey has been obscured by heavy infilling. A 1973 listing description mentions roof trusses, a ground floor fireplace with corbels, and a two-panel attic door. The timber-framed side walls suggest that this building was originally part of a terrace.
