Description
This is a house, later used as a shop, dating from the early 19th century, with a rear wing that likely originated in the 16th or 17th century. The walls are probably brick or stone, rendered on the front, while the rear walls may be stone or cob. The rear wing has a prominent gable, clad in slate, rising above the main roofline. The front roof is slate, while the remainder is covered with corrugated asbestos. No chimneys are visible from the street. The original layout comprised two rooms at the front, with a staircase positioned at the rear of the left-hand room, and a single room in the rear wing, partially hidden behind the adjacent building at No. 128.
The building is two storeys high with a garret, and features a three-window front. A round-arched doorway is centrally located on the ground floor. All windows are 6-paned sashes, with those on the ground floor converted to fixed windows. There is a molded wooden eaves cornice, and a single gabled dormer window in the centre of the roof fitted with an 8-paned sash. The rear wing's gable features a three-light casement window with three panes per light, and plain barge-boards.
The interior, as noted in a 1988 description, includes an early 19th century wooden staircase with thin, square-section balusters. The rear wing contains an upper-floor beam from the 16th or 17th century with convex stops. There are likely to be other early features, such as fireplaces, concealed beneath plaster. The roof was rebuilt in the late 20th century.
