Description
No. 6 Quarry Street is a house that has been converted into an office. It features a front dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, which is built over an earlier 16th-century structure at the rear. The building is timber-framed and covered in colourwashed render, with decorative pargetted panels on the first floor. The left side has tile hanging, and the lower part of the rear wing is finished in cement render. The roof is plain tiled, hipped at the back and half-hipped at the right end of the front.
The building has two storeys and attics, with a stack at the right end and a taller multiple stack at the rear right. There are two hipped-roof casement dormers on the front, above a bold modillion eaves cornice. The first floor jetties out on a moulded bressumer and features two cross casement windows along with a narrower window to the right. The ground floor has two large 19th-century 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows with thin glazing bars on the right side, and a half-glazed door to the left.
On the left-hand return front, there is an irregular arrangement of casement windows, with an old muntin-panelled door at the centre of the ground floor. At the rear, the first floor also jetties out with modillion eaves, featuring two cross windows and one window to the left. A single-storey extension projects from the ground floor, which is built over a basement where the ground level drops away. Inside, the substantial frame of the building is exposed.
