Description
The Kings Head is a house that has been converted into a public house. It dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century and was extended at the rear in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed and covered in whitewashed render, topped with plain tiled roofs. It features double gable ends facing the street, with two storeys on the left side and two storeys with an attic on the right. There is a corbelled stack with a cross-shaped section on the right-hand gable, along with additional stacks on the left and rear. The windows are wood-framed casements, with one three-light window on each floor of both gables, and attic drip mouldings above. The entrance door is located up steps in a recess at the junction of the gables.
On the left side, which faces Castle Street, there is one casement window on each floor to the left and one glazing-bar sash window on each floor to the right. The rear features flat-roofed extensions with a balcony above, which are not of special interest. Inside, the roof space has wattle and daub, with pargetting in a reeded panel pattern. Some sooted rafters may indicate an earlier core of the building.
