Description

This is a house, now used as offices, dating to around 1800. It was refronted in the 18th century, but retains a 16th-century timber-framed structure at the rear. The front is colourwashed brick, with a rendered ground floor, and a tiled roof largely hidden by a parapet. The building is two storeys and has an attic level, with a basement to the rear where the ground slopes downwards. A ribbed chimney stack from the 17th century is located on the right-hand side. The ground floor is rusticated and features a cornice band below an eaves cornice, which runs to the base of the parapet. The upper floors have three bays, with three six-pane sash windows in the attic, set within gauged-brick heads that are now painted over. The first floor also has three 12-pane sash windows with similar brick heads. A central 12-pane sash window on the ground floor sits within a chamfered surround. The entrances are made up of six-panel doors, set in panelled reveals with moulded projecting surrounds. Inside, a staircase features barley-sugar twist balusters, and there is some panelling in the ground floor rooms. The house was formerly known as Norfolk House.
