Description

This early 18th-century house, which is now offices, was likely rebuilt by Thomas Gallop, the Bargemaster, and was refronted in the early 19th century. Constructed of brown stock brick with red brick angle quoins and dressings, the ground floor is stuccoed. It has hipped slate roofs with wooden eaves brackets. The building is two storeys and has attics over a basement, with stacks positioned on the left side where it joins No. 57. It is three bays wide and has a plat band above the ground floor and a moulded brick band above the first floor. There are three 6-pane sash windows in quoined surrounds in the attic, and three 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows below the first floor, each with a gauged-brick head. The ground floor has two 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows, and a basement window. A four-panel door is located on the right, set within a panelled surround that projects forward to support an entablature hood. The over-light features oval and lozenge tracery.
