Description
This building, located approximately 10 meters east of The Steps, is a house that was formerly part of the village school. It dates back to 1713, with some parts likely built slightly later. The structure is made of coursed squared marlstone with some ashlar dressings and features a Welsh-slate roof with brick stacks.
The house has a four-unit plan. The right half, which is dated, has two storeys plus an attic and includes two 3-light casement windows on each floor, along with a central segmental-arched opening that now serves as the entrance and an adjoining window. The flat arches above the openings are made with ashlar voussoirs. The datestone features a recessed panel inscribed with "C/AA/1713".
The left half of the building is three storeys tall and has a central doorway flanked by 2-light casements, with two 3-light casements on each of the upper floors. All openings on this side also have 3-stone flat arches. Both sections of the house have a chamfered plinth, and there is a Victorian post box located in the center of the front. The continuous roof features gable parapets with projecting kneelers, three stacks, and two gabled dormers over the right section. There is a gabled stair tower at the rear of the right half. The interior has not been inspected.
