Description

Chantry Cottage is a school, later converted into a house, dating to approximately 1740, with an addition made in the mid-19th century that mimics the original style. It is constructed of ashlar stone with Welsh slate roofs and features three coped stone gable stacks and one brick gable stack. The building has a plinth and quoins, with coped gables including kneelers.

The main block is two storeys plus garrets, with three windows. It has three six-pane sash windows with stone surrounds, shaped lintels, and keystones. A central rusticated doorcase has a shaped head and keystone, flanked by single windows also with shaped lintels and keystones. Each gable includes a mullioned window to the garret. A single-storey wing is positioned on each side of the main block, each containing a single window. The left wing has a round-headed fielded panel door, flanked to the left by a window, and to the left again a recessed 19th-century lean-to toilet with a board door. The right wing has a blocked doorway with a stone surround and keystone, and to its right, a three-light stone flush mullioned window with a keystone. The rear elevation features a stone transomed stair window. The interior has not been inspected. The building was vacant at the time of survey.
