Description
Chantrey Cottage and Chantry House, located in Norton, Sheffield, date from the early and mid-18th century, with later 20th-century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, and has artificial stone slate roofs. It is arranged as an L-plan with a 7-window facade, divided into a 2:3:2 bay arrangement. The cottage, to the left, has a coped gable. A large, central 20th-century gabled porch with a glazed door sits on the front. Single 2-light flush mullioned windows with stone surrounds are located on either side of the porch, one on each floor, with lower windows featuring keystones. The main house has a plinth, projecting quoins, and 20th-century ridge and gable stone stacks. It features three 2-light flush mullioned windows with stone surrounds and keystones. A central moulded stone doorcase with a keystone and cornice frames a 20th-century door. To the right of the main house is a matching late 20th-century addition, incorporating quoins and two 2-light casements on each floor, with the lower windows having stone flush mullions. The interior has not been inspected.
