Description
Grove Cottage is an early 18th-century house located in the parish of Sandford St. Martin, near Ledwell. It is constructed from coursed marlstone rubble with a concrete plain-tile roof and brick stacks. Originally a two-unit plan building, it was later extended to three units. The house has two storeys plus an attic. The two bays on the right-hand side of the front elevation are from the early 18th century and feature two-light leaded casement windows. The first-floor windows have timber lintels, while the ground-floor window and doorway on the left have stone flat arches. A bay to the left has small 20th-century window openings and has been raised to align with the steep roof of the main section, marked by a buttress with sloping weatherings. The rear of the main section has additional leaded casement windows with segmental arches, a bread oven projection, and a sundial. Stacks flank the main section. Dormers have been added to the rear roof in the 20th century. The interior remains uninspected.
