Description

The building, formerly known as The Old School, is a former National School founded in 1824 and extended in 1852 with additional school rooms for infants and girls. It is constructed of roughly-squared stone with cut quoins and dressings, topped by a Welsh slate roof featuring red ridge tiles. The building has a cruciform plan and is designed in the Tudor style. It is a single-storey structure with a layout of 1 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 1 bays.

The projecting gabled center has a chamfered plinth and a five-light window with a hoodmould that steps up over the taller central light, with a slit window above. There is a stepped-and-corniced stack on the left return. The flanking sections feature central stepped stacks, with the upper parts rebuilt, and are interspersed with pairs of two- and three-light mullioned windows. The left end includes a corbelled-out gabled bellcote with a pointed arch and a moulded finial.

At each end of the building, there are lower porches with vertical-panelled doors beneath flat-pointed heads, framed within square surrounds and featuring hoodmoulds. The main part has twin slit windows in the gables, while the porches have single slit windows. All windows are 12-pane sashes, and all openings are set in recessed and chamfered surrounds. The gables are coped and supported on moulded kneelers. It is noted that the fenestration at the rear has been altered.
