Description

This early 19th-century garden wall stands to the north of Emberside and Elm House. It is constructed of brick with alternating headers and stretchers every fourth course, and has a rear face of squared rubble with cut stone dressings. The wall is approximately 4 metres high, topped with flat stone coping. A rounded archway in the wall, with alternating block jambs and brick voussoirs, provides access from a back lane. The western end of the wall connects to number 8 Bridge Street. The wall originally formed the northern boundary of the garden belonging to the former Warkworth House (now the Warkworth House Hotel). The late 20th-century Emberside House near the western end, and the eastern section of the wall which connects to and extends beyond Elm House, are not considered to be of particular architectural or historic interest.
