Description
This is a field barn located approximately 200 meters east-southeast of Abbey Farmhouse, dating from the 18th century, with an extension from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with dressed quoins and features a gable-ended roof covered in corrugated sheet steel. The barn has a five-bay layout, with the central bay serving as a threshing bay that includes opposing cart entrances. The west front features a midstrey, which originally had a loft above it, and there is an early 19th-century outshut on the north side of the midstrey. The barn faces a fold yard, where the remains of a cattle-shelter can be found on the north side.
On the exterior, the west front has a midstrey at the center with a hipped roof and a cart entrance that has a timber lintel, along with a window above. There is a lean-to outshut added to the left side of the midstrey, and small triangular ventilation holes are present in the walls. The east elevation features a cart entrance at the center, also with a timber lintel. Inside, there is a stone-paved threshing floor and a five-bay tie-beam and collar roof with mortice-and-tenon joints, tenoned purlins, and intact common rafters with a ridge-board, as well as a similar roof structure over the midstrey.
