Description

This is a barn located immediately north-northwest of Fields Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a tall red brick plinth, topped with a clay plain tile roof that has half-hipped ends. The barn has a five-bay layout with a central threshing floor and a midstrey on the northwest side. In the late 19th century, a brick outshut was added to both the northwest side and the southeast end, and the cart entrance on the southwest side has been blocked.

On the exterior, the northwest front includes a hipped roof midstrey at the center with sliding doors, and to the left, there is a brick outshut with a lean-to slate roof that continues around the southeast end. High-level loading doors are present at each end. The southwest side features a blocked cart entrance at the center, which has a small canopy above it.

Inside, the barn has jowled posts with curved braces supporting the tie-beams, along with queen-struts connecting to clasped purlins. The structure includes intermediate collars with birdsmouth joints to the purlins, and the common-rafter and ridgeboard are intact. The wall framing consists of close-studding without rails, supported by long straight braces.
