Description
This is a barn located immediately south west of Skates Farmhouse, dating from around the 18th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a red brick plinth, topped with a clay plain tile roof that has half-hipped ends. The barn has a three-bay layout, with a central cart entrance on the southeast front and a later outshut on the left side of the southeast front.
The southeast front showcases a central cart entrance with full-height double doors, along with a lean-to outshut on the left. There is also a doorway on the northeast end. Inside, the barn has a three-bay frame with cut jowled wall-posts and straight braces connecting to the tie-beams. The tie-beam trusses are supported by raking struts that lead to clasped purlins, and the roof includes common rafters and a ridgeboard. The wall framing features staggered mid-rails.
