Description
The barn located north-west of Great Lodge Farmhouse dates from the 18th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a tall red brick plinth, topped with a gable-ended roof covered in corrugated iron sheets. The barn has a five-bay layout with a central threshing bay and a single aisle, along with a later outshut on the north-east end.
On the south-east front, there is a large cart entrance in the center and a smaller cart entrance to the right, while the rear has lower eaves. Inside, the barn boasts large jowled wall and arcade posts with straight braces connecting to the arcade plate and tie beams. The roof structure includes tie-beam and collar trusses with queen posts and clasped purlins, although most of the common rafters are missing. The wall framing features long studs and long straight tension braces, and it does not include rails.
