Description
The hay barn, located west-north-west of Great Lodge Farmhouse, dates from the 18th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame and a roof with both hipped and gabled ends, covered in corrugated-iron sheets. The barn has a four-bay open-sided design, which was later clad in weatherboarding, and an aisle was added on the northwest side.
On the southeast front, there is a cart entrance on the left with a small window above it, and a loading door on the right. The eaves at the rear are lower.
Inside, the barn has arcade posts with moulded jowls and curved braces connecting to the arcade plate and tie beams. The structure includes tie-beam and collar trusses with queen posts and clasped purlins, as well as diminished principal rafters. Most of the common rafters and the ridge piece remain intact. The wall framing and aisle were added at a later date.
