Description
The cattle shelter shed and attached pigsties, located west of Fields Farmhouse, were built around the early 19th century, with the pigsties added in the mid-19th century. The structure features a timber frame clad in corrugated iron, topped with a steeply-pitched hipped roof made of plain clay tiles. The pigsties are constructed from red brick and have a lean-to slate roof. The shelter shed is roughly square in shape and has a three-bay open front facing northeast. The pigsties are located on the southeast side and include runs in front. This single-storey building has an open three-bay front supported by timber posts. Inside, the shelter shed has a collar and tie-beam roof, with the intersecting tie-beams supported by a central post that has a branched top. It also features tenoned purlins, common rafters, and a ridge-board. The wall framing includes studs and long straight braces, while the southeast side wall adjacent to the pigsty has overlapping vertical plank cladding.
