Description
Radford Mill and Millhouse is a watermill and millhouse located in Enstone. The mill likely dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, while the house is from the late 17th century to early 18th century. The building is constructed from limestone rubble with wooden lintels and coursed squared limestone, topped with Welsh-slate roofs and brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan with a mill range and stands two storeys high.
The house features a three-window rubble front with a gable on the left, which may be the oldest part of the structure. It has irregular two- and three-light casements and two doorways, one of which has been converted into a window. The gabled bay extends to the rear as a wing that includes a stack on the rear gable. The main range has a stack on the right side and a lateral stack at the rear, which rises from a rectangular chimney projection. The mill range projects forward from the right side of the main range, with roofs that step up to the coursed-limestone mill section, which features segmental ashlar arches over its openings.
Inside, the mill retains its iron and wood gear that drives two pairs of stones and an overshot wheel. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
