Description
Abbey Farmhouse and the attached stable are a farmhouse and stable dating from the early to mid-18th century, with possible elements from the 17th century. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with some ashlar dressings and features a concrete plain-tile roof with rendered brick stacks. It has a central-stair plan with a rear outshut and a subsidiary range. The structure is two storeys plus an attic, with a symmetrical three-window front on the taller main range. The first floor has 2-light casements, while the ground floor features large 3-light casements flanking a central six-panel door, all topped with ashlar flat arches. The steep-pitched roof has gable stacks. The lower two-window range, which breaks forward to the right, has flat arches on the left bay, which includes a secondary entrance, while the right bay has wooden lintels over the casements. The roof of this range has a central stone-based stack. Inside, there are two large open fireplaces, one of which in the lower range may date back to the 17th century. The name "Abbey Farmhouse" is said to come from the farm's medieval ownership by Winchcombe Abbey.
