Description

The Manor House is a manor house built around 1715 for Joseph Taylor, with possible earlier elements, and was extended in the 19th century and again in 1924. It features limestone ashlar and coursed squared rubble, with roofs made of Stonesfield slate and ashlar stacks. The building has a complex plan and stands at two and three storeys.

The central part of the garden front is the original ashlar five-window entrance front designed in Baroque style, featuring 12-pane sash windows on the ground and first floors, storey bands, and a parapet with a cornice. The middle three bays project forward under a triangular pediment, with segmental-arched casements on the second floor flanking a taller round-headed window that rises into the pediment, topped with a large keyblock. The outer bays have contemporary ornamental lead rainwater heads. On either side, there are added two-storey bays with sash windows, along with later extensions that include gabled half dormers. The roofs have gable parapets.

The current entrance front, which is in a multi-gabled style, dates from the 19th and 20th centuries and features stone-mullioned windows. The interior has not been inspected, but a photograph in the National Monuments Record shows a stone Tudor-arched fireplace with a plaster overmantel displaying a coat of arms within a decorative border.
