Description

The barn and stables, located approximately 10 meters northwest of Thomley Hall, are likely from the 17th century and were remodeled in the late 18th century. They are constructed of brick in an irregular bond and feature roofs made of old plain tiles and Welsh slate. The building has a three-bay plan plus a stable. The front has a central brick porch with a weatherboarded gable, while the rear includes an opposed doorway and slits. The front and interior walls are made of old narrow bricks, whereas the rear and right end walls consist of larger bricks with flared headers and a moulded plinth. Some of these bricks are inscribed with "TS 1770", "AS 1770", and "TL 1770". To the left, there is a one-bay slated stable and loft, with the end wall also inscribed "SS 1770". Inside, the roof structure features sawn and bolted timbers with queen-post trusses, and the end bays have first-floor granaries that have been inserted.
