Description

THOMLEY SP60NW 6/184 Thomley Hall (not included), the barn and stables approx. 10m, to NW

Barn and stable. Probably C17, remodelled late C18. Brick in irregular bond with old plain-tile and Welsh-slate roofs. 3-bay plan plus stable. Front has central brick porch with weatherboarded gable. Rear has opposed doorway and slits. Front and interior face of walls are of old narrow bricks; rear and right end wall of larger bricks, with flared headers and a moulded plinth, and include bricks inscribed "TS 1770", "AS 1770" and "TL 1770". One-bay slated stable and loft, to left, has brick in end wall inscribed "SS 1770". Interior: Roof structure of sawn and bolted timbers with queen-post trusses. End bays have inserted first-floor granaries.
