Description

The barn and former stables at Manor Farm date from the 15th century and 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The structure features brick-nogged timber framing set on a brick plinth, with irregular bond brickwork on the gable and Sussex-bond brickwork on the stable. The roof is covered with slate. The barn has four bays, while the stables consist of two bays and include a loft.

The gable facing the road is made of brick and has five diamond-shaped air vents. On the left side, there is brickwork on the right and timber framing above a high plinth, with slots for props in some of the studs. The sill is likely raised, and there is a boarded door leading to a pitching hole. The barn has double, boarded sliding doors that are off-center to the left, along with further timber framing. The rear wall of the stable is made of brick, with a lean-to structure against the central section. The stable's central boarded door is timber-framed, accompanied by a narrow window on the right, both set under a single cambered brick head.

Inside the barn, there is a stone-paved threshing floor, four cruck trusses, spurs to the wall post, an iron wallplate tie, and a bolted tie-beam with housings for a collar above that has since been removed. The barn features one pair of purlins and a square ridge. Originally, horses in the stable were tied facing the gables, with one end cruck truss extending to the barn. The walls of the cruck barn were likely renewed in the 18th century, and the stable was added later, with the sliding doors being a 19th-century alteration and some of the brick nogging partially renewed on the right return in the early 20th century.
