Description
The barn and former stable at Abbot's Court Farm date from the early 17th century and 18th century, with minor alterations made in the 19th century. The structure features brick-nogged timber framing and a shingle roof on the barn, while the stable has English garden wall bond brickwork and a tiled roof. The barn is arranged in four bays and the lofted stable forms an 'I' plan.
The facade facing the road has a low plinth for the barn, with framing that is three panels high and air vents created by paired slits. To the right, there are two blocked doorways, and boarded double doors that rise to the eaves, positioned slightly off-center to the left. The left end gable is fully boarded. The brick stable, which is slightly set back on the left, has a stone plinth and a square, shuttered opening under the eaves on the right. In the center, there is a boarded door with a wooden frame and a cambered brick head, topped by a parapet gable.
Inside the barn, there is a stone-paved threshing floor, tie beam trusses with collar and angle struts, and straight braces to the main posts with a tie above. It has two pairs of purlins, wind braces, and a ridge member. The right end has been lofted at some point. Originally, there were down braces to the sill on each side of the threshing floor, but these were removed by the late 20th century. A lean-to is present on the right gable, along with other buildings behind that are not of special interest. This structure forms a group with The Minstrels.
