Description
Eden's Hill Farm features a barn and stable built in the 17th century, with a lean-to added in the 19th century. The structure has weatherboarded timber framing set on a stone plinth, with an irregular Flemish bond brick gable for the stable and Flemish bond brickwork on a random-rubble stone plinth for the lean-to behind the stable. The roof is made of corrugated iron.
The barn has three bays, while the stable has a single bay and includes a loft. The front faces a yard and has double boarded doors that reach half the wall height, with bays on each side. The stable is timber-framed towards the yard and has a boarded door. The right side features shuttered windows for both the stable and loft, with cambered brick arches. The top half of the gable is covered in corrugated iron, and the roof was originally half-hipped, similar to the other end. There is a square window in the lean-to extension, which is boarded over.
Inside, the timber framing consists of three panels high, with bracing from the end posts to the sill, as well as main posts to the sill on either side of the threshing floor. There are low, double doors at the rear between the lean-tos. The framed walls have butt-jointed boarding where they are protected by the lean-to. The barn features collar and tie-beam trusses, one pair of purlins, and a square ridge. The stable interior is lofted and includes a trough and rack, with a door at the rear leading to a harness room in the lean-to. This building forms a group with the contemporary house nearby.
