Description
Callowhill is a 17th-century house featuring a timber-framed structure with painted brick nogging and a stone plinth, topped with a tiled roof. The building is three bays wide and one room deep, with a continuous lean-to at the rear and two storeys, the upper half integrated into the roof.
The front faces the lane and displays three panels of framing that are squarish and three panels high. On the left side, there is a low plinth and a late 20th-century two-light casement window with weatherboarding above. To the right, the main post has a straight brace connecting to the wallplate, and the sill steps up slightly. A boarded door is accessed by two steps, and there is a lean-to porch with a boarded roof supported by struts.
To the right of the porch, there is a similar window, and beyond it, a segmental head indicates a former door, with a brace from the main post to the wallplate. The lean-to extension at the last bay features a catslide roof and a boarded door on the left return. The main wall has two top-hung casement windows set in a two-panel high frame. Gabled dormers with late 20th-century casement windows sit above the ground floor windows in the main wall, and the roof is half-hipped. A plain brick chimney is located on the ridge, at the end of the first bay from the left, and it begins to swell just above the roof. The ridge is slightly lower on the left side than on the right. Originally a two-bay house, it has been enlarged by an additional bay on the left.
