Description

Walden Court is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations likely made in the early 18th century and extensions added in the 19th century. The building features a timber-framed structure with rendered panels and two-panel high close studding on the front. The extensions are constructed of rendered walls or Flemish-bond brickwork, topped with a tiled roof.

The main block has a cross-wing on the left and consists of two storeys with attics. The main facade includes generally three-light mullion and transom windows with leaded lights. On the left side, there is an iron opening casement window, while the center has an opening that was made for a wider original window, with missing studs on the right. The extension protrudes forward and features a single-storey, flat-roofed canted bay with a normal window.

On the right side, there is a single-storey lean-to porch with a single-light window, a moulded eaves board, and a door on the right return. The original timber-framed wall is set back, with only the main posts and rail surviving on the ground floor. There is a window in a wider opening and a 20th-century half-glazed door. Beyond this, there is a single-storey brick extension that is partially concealed by a garden wall at a right angle to the house.

On the first floor, the left end features a jowl to the main posts with a window in a wider opening, while the extension has wider panels and a window in the center with a flat roof. Two additional windows in the main block include one in the left half of a larger opening and another replacing the studs. Above, the left gable has three square panels with carved corner timbers and a two-light casement window above, with diagonal studs in triangles on the left and vertical studs in the apex. The gable features carved bargeboards and timber finials at the apex and left eaves.

A large brick chimney is located in the center of the gable behind the main block ridge. To the right, the eaves board serves as a gable bargeboard, and there is a three-light casement window in a gabled dormer, also with carved bargeboards and finials. A chimney rises from near the eaves to the right, with a crested ridge, a hip on the right side, and a timber finial at the apex. The interior has not been inspected. The farmhouse is part of a group with a barn.
