Description

Cherry Tree Cottage is a former 18th-century farmhouse, now a house, located on Pool Hill in Pauntley. The building is characterised by spindly brick-nogged timber framing, three-panel high overall, with some panels rendered. It has a tiled roof. The original house comprised two bays, with a two-bay extension beyond and a further timber-framed section, likely a former farm building.

The front facade features nailed timber-frame construction. The first bay has no windows; a beam at first-floor level in the second bay is slightly lower than usual, and a four-pane window is positioned below a weatherboard, likely replacing an original entrance. A late 20th-century lean-to porch covers the present entrance and is not of particular architectural interest. A gable chimney is located at the right-hand end of the house. A loft access door is positioned externally in the timber-framed extension beyond the main house, although the associated steps are missing. A lean-to brick extension on the left side housed an oven, and a cut-down chimney is situated against the eaves of the house.

The left return shows pegged mortice and tenon joints in the timber framing. A late 20th-century two-light casement window is located on the ground floor, and a projecting brick stack is positioned to the left, offset at eaves level, appearing outside the main fabric of the house. A two-light casement window is present in the gable, alongside an iron opening light; the gable is boarded above.
