Description

Great House Close is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 17th century, with a roof that was raised in the 18th century and underwent 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a raised stone slate roof. The building has stone-end stacks with renewed stone shafts and a stone-coped gable that includes moulded kneelers and finials. The structure is L-shaped, with two storeys plus a cellar and a three-window range.

The entrance is located off-centre to the right and is accessed by three stone steps. It features a four-panelled door set within a four-centred arched stone doorway, which has moulded chamfered jambs and a hood mould with label stops. Flanking the entrance are four-light stone mullioned windows of ovolo section, also with hood moulds and label stops. On the first floor, there are two similar windows and one renewed two-light window. The cellar has a two-light stone mullioned window that includes a hood mould, label stops, and ovolo section mullions.

Inside, there is an 18th-century moulded stone fireplace with a square head, measuring 8 feet 3 inches wide by 5 feet 3 inches high. The 18th-century staircase features stick balusters, and it is said that there is late 18th-century panelling on the ground floor.
