Description

SHUTFORD COOK'S HILL SP 3839 (North side) 13/122 Tudor Cottage 08/12/55 II House. Datestone 1661. Squared, coursed ironstone. Uncoursed rubble to rear. Slate roof. Brick end stacks. 2-unit plan. 2 storeys. 2-window range. Approximately central entrance has a square head and moulded jambs. Badly weathered spandrels have carved strapwork and fleurs-de-lys design. Plank door. Entrance is flanked by 2-light stone mullioned windows. Continuous hood moulds with label stops over ground floor openings. First floor has two 2-light stone mullioned windows with hood moulds and label stops and an oval stone framed window over door. Right end has a 2-light casement inserted in original opening with a hood mould and label stop over. 2-light stone mullioned window with hood mould and label stop to first floor; blocked attic window. Rear has a gabled, slate roofed 2-storey staircase projection with an oval stone framed window. Some burned stones in rear wall. The date 1728 is said to be carved on a stone on the back wall on the south side of the staircase projection now contained in a C20 pent. Interior said to have beams, inglenook fireplace and a stone winder staircase.
