Description
Tudor Cottage is a house dating from 1661, constructed of squared, coursed ironstone with uncoursed rubble at the rear. It has a slate roof and brick end stacks, featuring a 2-unit plan across two storeys and a two-window range. The approximately central entrance has a square head and moulded jambs, with badly weathered spandrels displaying carved strapwork and fleurs-de-lys designs. The entrance is flanked by two-light stone mullioned windows, all topped with continuous hood moulds that have label stops over the ground floor openings. On the first floor, there are two more two-light stone mullioned windows with hood moulds and label stops, along with an oval stone-framed window above the door. The right end of the house features a two-light casement inserted into the original opening, complete with a hood mould and label stop above. There is also a two-light stone mullioned window with a hood mould and label stop on the first floor, and a blocked attic window. The rear of the building has a gabled, slate-roofed two-storey staircase projection that includes an oval stone-framed window. Some burned stones are visible in the rear wall, and the date 1728 is reportedly carved on a stone on the back wall of the south side of the staircase projection, which is now part of a 20th-century extension. The interior is said to feature beams, an inglenook fireplace, and a stone winder staircase.
